The SolarHomes Rebate is Changing- Here’s What You Need to Know

The SolarHomes Rebate program launched this year as a way to make solar energy more affordable for Nova Scotians by offering a rebate on installation costs. The program has been a wild success and has exceeded the level of interest it was expected to receive.
In response to the high demand for the program, Efficiency Nova Scotia has just announced that it has to make cutbacks to the rebate program or risk running out of funding.

Currently, the SolarHomes program offers
$1/Watt (of installed DC capacity) up to 40% of eligible system costs (excluding HST) or $10,000, whichever is less.
The new SolarHomes rebate will offer
$0.85/Watt (installed DC capacity) up to 35% of eligible system costs (excluding HST) or $8,500, whichever is less.
Keep in mind that the new rebate is still a great offer! It will continue to make solar energy installs affordable for Nova Scotians and is a huge win for renewable energy in our province. By restructuring the rebate, Efficiency Nova Scotia will be able to make the most of the remaining funding and bring solar to more homes.

To date, the program has helped to almost triple the amount of net metering installs from 2018 and has more than doubled the total number of net metering installs in the province. This is not only just a huge win for individual homeowners but is helping to establish Nova Scotia as a global leader in renewable energy.
